How much does a mostly self-built house cost?

If I were to do the work myself, I would not be satisfied with the result afterwards and my family would be neglected. Both points that would spoil the house construction - which so far is so interesting and fun - for me. That would not be worth a 5,000 euro saving to me.

Are you so unskilled at handiwork that you rate yourself that way? Family time is indeed shorter during construction – but it is foreseeable and you know what it is for.

It’s just a matter of attitude, but I wouldn’t want to give it up. It also saves me more than 5,000 euros – you can multiply that more than five or six times...

I simply estimate now that you have to work at least 1 hour for a 50€ saving. You don’t save on materials, etc. 25k Euros then amounts to at least 500 hours of work. How many hours can you manage per week if you work full-time and maybe have children? How long should the house construction take additionally (especially if there are tasks other craftsmen have to wait for)? I did a bit by myself during construction, but mainly wallpapering/painting/flooring and a few small things. But time-wise, that was already enough. Despite having a child, I managed about 20 hours on weekends and about 15 hours during the week in total, but after a few weeks I was already pretty ready for a vacation. I find it hard to imagine the 500 hours for myself.

You don't do it alone - otherwise it would be difficult to manage.

But I think it is clear that not everyone can do that. You do need enough capable helpers and time.

Definitely - that is also where the greatest risk of overestimation lies.
