How harmful is parquet glue to health when using underfloor heating?

Good day,

we are starting the construction of a semi-detached house in the summer and are currently dealing with the selection of floors. We have decided to lay tiles in almost the entire house, as it is probably the best choice for heat transfer with underfloor heating. Our living/dining area is to be excluded from tiling because we find tiles too cold in this 70 sqm large room, and wood conveys a warmer feeling. Therefore, we have chosen a solid oak parquet which is to be firmly glued with a parquet elastic adhesive (80 kg). I know that parquet is not the best choice for underfloor heating but still feasible.

Now, while surfing the internet, I have come across some articles that consider parquet adhesives to be toxic, and now I am a bit unsettled. Would the problem even worsen due to the heating of the underfloor heating? Does the adhesive off-gas and will "toxic gases" be released into the room? Or are today’s parquet adhesives unproblematic? I have read something about the standards EC1 and EC1 Plus. Is one on the safe side with such an adhesive?

I would be very happy to receive a brief assessment.

Best regards,
Hans

I have now - because we ourselves will have fully glued parquet installed in a few weeks - searched a bit and found nothing about the toxicity of current parquet adhesives. Many old installations apparently have toxic glue, but none current. Do you have sources (do not post links, only how to find them)

I installed it as a floating floor over underfloor heating. This way, the floor has a bit of give and no glue is needed. It works well and was also somewhat cheaper in terms of installation labor.

I could imagine that you have a few weeks before moving in after the parquet installation, provided you ventilate, so the harmful gas is gone. New furniture is worse.

The last time I dealt with the topic was in 2018 and the status back then was: Ökotest and Warentest had tested parquet adhesives several times and could not name any adhesives without toxic emissions... and these emissions do not just disappear after a few weeks. Since wood works and expands, the adhesive must also be able to withstand significantly more than with linoleum or, for example, PVC/vinyl/"design flooring" (which also has its own pollutant issues).

By the way, small children often move close to the floor and are very close to the emissions...

Modern parquet adhesives are just as dangerous as tile adhesives or plastic flooring (nowadays called design flooring).
