For us, the framework conditions are similar. Our (my) "problem" was only that I want to live near the S-Bahn, i.e. without changing trains to get to the (Frankfurt) city center. That quickly rules out quite a few new development areas. We also wanted a 400 sqm + plot of land - which is hardly available in new developments here anymore. So in the end, it became an existing property - including an extension and renovation, unfortunately also an expensive affair. We don’t consume too much either - my first smartphone lasted 6 years... and smart home is not necessary either - but location & plot size are. I can only agree with my predecessors, reflect on it, and write down what is really important to you. Then the "homo oeconomicus" has nothing to say.

A little update, just for pure entertainment, in case anyone is interested: We have now done a financial check and, despite parental leave and part-time work afterward, had an average monthly savings rate of over 6,000 euros in recent years. You can miscalculate like that, I would have expected at most half... It's shocking how little you know about your own finances...

Some people don’t even earn that much, what you save

Some?
With this savings rate alone, you belong to the top 10 percent of German households

There should be a comma inserted there, then it could fit.
