Hi everyone,
quick update on the situation: We are buying a house, we basically got the official "yes" yesterday (Yay, after a long search!). My wife is pregnant, the child is expected to arrive in July.

Of course, we want to take advantage of the [Baukindergeld] with this house purchase (it's a good 12,000 Euros). But that only works if the purchase contract is signed at the notary AFTER the birth.

Is there a way, for example, through a preliminary contract to delay the "real" purchase contract by a few months? Or other options? This is a very, very significant amount of money for us (:

Best regards, Ramon

No, the BKG application must be submitted after the birth, not the purchase contract signed. Because the application must also be submitted within three months after moving in, it follows that you are not allowed to move before May and besides that there is no problem. Congratulations!

It looks similar for us. At first, I dismissed the [Baukindergeld], but now I assume we will get it. However, I can only tell you 100% in a few months.

Our situation:
Purchase contract / notarized signature April 2018.
Move-in presumably mid-April 2019.
Due date for 1st child end of June 2019.

If everything goes well, we will move in mid-April 2019. After that, we would have 3 months to apply for [Baukindergeld], so until mid-July.
Our little one is due end of June.
Accordingly, I would submit the application shortly after the birth.

So in my opinion, we should receive [Baukindergeld].
But as I wrote above, no one can say for sure yet. The chances are very good for you and us though.

All the best!

What else comes to mind: Be careful, afaik you already need a registration confirmation including the new child for the application! I don’t know exactly when you can get it, but probably not before the birth certificate is ready. Depending on the municipality, this can take quite a long time, so it’s best to ask the registry office in advance about the expected timeframe (midwives usually know this too, if you have one). And don’t forget that babies often go up to 14 days past the due date. So in case of doubt, better move a month later…
