Of course. Whoever doesn't try has a 0% chance. You can only win. What is there to lose except some time?
The form of communication helps to influence the probability:
1. Plan the conversation goal and stages of the conversation. (Tip further below)
2. Identify the target contact person (I prefer managing directors or board members)
3. Prefer speaking over writing (writing can always be done later)
4. Find an appropriate style and communicate on equal footing
Of course, there is no guarantee that this will work.
Many say after the fact that I am simply a lucky person in such matters. That may seem so, but the simple truth is different: You win or lose people through good communication. A person you win over gladly helps if they can and shows willingness to use their leeway.
