That is true for the pure consumption costs. Keep in mind that you only have one pipe in the wall for that. You don’t need any investments for a pellet boiler, exhaust system, or costs for maintenance and chimney sweep. And you need your own basement room to store the pellets.

If you only have a low heat demand, then the consumption costs are lower or similar to the operating costs including depreciation.

If you are going to renovate the attic anyway, you will have scaffolding. Why don’t you insulate the facade at the same time, possibly even as a DIY project? Then only the basement ceiling would be missing. Discuss this as suggested with an energy consultant.

At the moment I still hesitate to consult the energy advisor because I feel that they all simply always recommend the maximum amount of insulation and then want 5000€ for it.
