Good day! We are currently renovating an old building, built in 1895, ground floor, upper floor, and attic, fully basemented, total living area about 330 sqm, used as a single-family house with 4 people. For hot water preparation, we have two alternatives available: 1. Hot water storage tank in the basement (160L) 2. 2 instantaneous water heaters in 2 bathrooms each, and in the kitchen and guest WCs a small storage tank each. Apart from installation and energy costs: Is there a significant difference between the two variants regarding water pressure or water volume when showering, i.e., if you want to shower with high pressure, is one of the two systems clearly superior? Thank you very much in advance for your answers.

If everything is going to be done anyway, I would prefer the central water tank. Heating water electrically I would really only consider as an absolute last resort. You probably won't notice any difference in water pressure.

Are there any arguments against tankless water heaters besides the energy costs?

Yes, you have to wait a bit until warm water comes and it is a bit more difficult to set the desired temperature using the mixing faucet. For a household of 4 people, I would always recommend storage heaters, but somewhat larger than 160 liters, because if everyone wants to shower one after the other, the water will be a bit scarce.

We had DLEs in our last apartment. I found them very pleasant. The temperature was set directly on the device and then you could turn the shower to hot and had your 40-degree warm water after 5 seconds. An invaluable advantage when bathing babies. And I didn't find the costs so exorbitant, it depends on the behavior. Water arrives faster with a storage tank only with a circulation pump.
