Hello

I want to build a horizontal wall. Currently, there is a staircase to another floor there.

The "hole" where the wall should go has the dimensions 250x180 cm.

It should later be possible to move on the resulting ceiling on the upper floor without the risk of breaking through.

Additionally, insulation should be installed. I have about 30 cm height for the entire wall. I would also rather not use a support post on the lower floor... is this possible?

Honestly, I have no idea about statics, building materials, no money for a specialist. However, I am not completely unskilled and I have built a lot before, just never pulled up a wall that serves as a ceiling, or what is much more important, as a stable floor.

I would now build a frame made of slats, insert bracing, drywall sheets on top and bottom, something insulating in the middle.

Does anyone have experience with something like this? What materials should I use?

I am grateful for any advice and recommendations...

Or is this rather something for a specialist? If yes, what would something like that cost approximately?

Thanks in advance...

Regards Florian

One thing upfront - this should be planned by a specialist

Simply filling in with bricks is of course not possible. The gap would have to be filled with reinforced concrete or a correspondingly supported structure with beams. Stable supports are necessary for this.
It may be that initially much more has to be removed than the already existing hole. The "filling" must be securely and sufficiently rigidly anchored.

A structural engineer must definitely be consulted here. He must then decide how it is constructed. Everything else is "reckless" and negligent.

The insulation normally goes under the floating screed, but it also depends a bit on the current setup. Drywall panels are definitely not suitable as a walkable surface.

Hello haus_ony,

if I understand you correctly, you want to close a hole in a floor slab (stairwell opening) so that it is walkable afterward.

Jörg is absolutely right with his statements in every point.

For such a project, you should definitely consult a structural engineer. He will examine the whole thing on site, suggest one or various solutions, calculate the required cross sections, and give you valuable tips for carrying out your project.

The costs for the structural engineer should be in the lower three-digit range, depending on the effort he has to invest. This depends on the local conditions. It would be helpful if, at the time of his visit, the claddings around the stairwell opening were already removed so that he can get an exact picture.

Best regards from the Osnabrück region
