High curb and concrete, but which one is recommended?

Good morning

I just quickly checked the OBI page again, they always explain things quite well there.
For mixing concrete yourself, they give a completely different quantity indication, so 4:1 is correct, I meant the amount of gravel.

They state that for 10cm depth over 10m length, I would need 1972kg of gravel.
That would be almost 2 tons and that for 10m.

But I need 70m for the Tiefbordsteine.
Where is my mistake in thinking?

I even think that the 10cm is way too little for under the Tiefbord and the 2 back supports.

So, my building material supplier also offers cement and gravel, but he says they don’t have a tipper truck (or trucks in general?). In any case, the delivery costs €90 and would therefore be more expensive than the ready-mixed bags of concrete. He has now also calculated for about 40 bags and said that the joints are sufficient. However, I will concrete the entire driveway and not just the joints.

Yeah, then take the ready-mixed concrete. The difference at OBI probably comes from the fact that they completely embed the stones in concrete, so they basically stick the stones into the concrete and the concrete also forms a foundation. But that is massively exaggerated, you’re not building an industrial yard with heavy traffic. The stones are placed on gravel at the appropriate height. On the earth side, you hardly need any concrete, on the 'open' side you make a fillet with the concrete, in the garden only at the joints, in the driveway continuously. The 40 bags are enough, if it’s not enough you can always buy more.

Hi everyone and especially , I have another question.

I have now concreted the splash guard around the terrace and the house.

Now it’s time for the driveway.
Here I am using 8x20x100 curb stones.

The entire area should have been compacted back then when the property was filled for the house, if I remember correctly.

In any case, several heavy containers have already been on it, trucks, excavators have driven over it several times, etc.
I think it is definitely compacted now.

1.
I want to set the curb stone into the ground, where should I start? Work from the street side towards the house or from the house towards the street?

2.
How deep should I dig here? That is, how deep should the concrete bed be in which the curb stone sits?
Related question 3: dig down to the gravel and refill and compact, or just dig a trench, pour concrete and put the curb stone on top?

3. On the entire area there is about 10 cm thick soil due to many works and soil deliveries before the gravel underneath starts.
a. Does this soil need to be completely removed and filled with gravel?
b. Or can I just pour the required gravel onto this soil and compact it?
Both for the curb stones and for the driveway/garage area?

Yes, the soil has to be removed, especially under the future paved area. It’s annoying, but unfortunately necessary. Otherwise, it will all wash away or settle unevenly.

I'll start from the back.
Earth must be removed, continue building up from the load-bearing, compacted gravel, i.e. even more gravel and beneath the paving stones put 1-2 cm of finer chippings at the end so that you can tap the stones nicely straight.

When the curb stones stand on the compacted gravel, in my opinion, no concrete is needed underneath, it's enough to concrete around the edges.

You should definitely stretch a string for the correct height of the stones that aligns with the string at the house and the street.

Where you start doesn't really matter, it depends on where you want the entire (uncut) curb stone, at the house or at the street.
