That is not usually done, but never. Plates on a tabletop standing upright instead of flat on the water would follow the acceleration of gravity as they fall. You must mean "orthogonal," or "at right angles," as the modern speakers say (which is no disgrace and "also" everyone understands).

You can extend or lengthen a table placed parallel if needed. However, if you choose the right lighting, it doesn’t matter and you can choose freely. However, I don’t know anyone who can rotate the table afterward without it looking stupid because of the lamps.
