Hello,

I have a problem with my Hällestad countertop where the surface coating is swelling/lifting, specifically near the original/factory edge. I have already tried to repair it with wood, a clamp, and glue without success.

There are no cut edges nearby, and under the countertop is the dishwasher LAGAN; the spot is, viewed from the front, at the back left of the dishwasher.

Wall strips/edge strips have not yet been installed.

Repairable or better to replace?
Can I do something in the future to prevent it from happening again?

I am considering whether to return the Hallestad and instead get a Personlig countertop now (currently I have two Hallestad joined together, as the total length is 320 cm).

It cannot be coming from the dishwasher at that spot. Apparently, some water was unnoticedly standing on it. It can't really be repaired properly. It can be prevented with a wall connection strip.

Is it actually the case that standing water penetrates the board at that spot? (No cut edge etc. at that spot)

It would be possible...

Question: Is the vapor barrier installed under the countertop / above the dishwasher?

Hello,

good idea, I had thought of that too.

No, the foil is currently not installed.

But:

1: The foil is mounted at the front, not at the back.

2: The countertop I am using is coated on both sides (gray on one side, white on the other), i.e. it is fully coated on both sides.

Standing water would be more realistic, but I would actually be a bit surprised, the factory edge should be sealed; otherwise I would have the same risk every time I wipe....

When wiping, the water does not act for a long time. It depends on how well the edge is glued. Perhaps a water-soluble adhesive is also used (for ecological reasons?). I would definitely complain about it initially.
