I was now at the local hardware store and got myself 80 KG of solid joint sand in [Wasserdurchlässig]. I hope basalt gray matches anthracite paving stones.

Yeah, but that stuff stinks like crazy. Not for the weak-stomached. The smell also lasts for a few days.

did you sweep the whole thing dry and then moisten it? Or did you mix it with water? I'm afraid that we don't have enough and that the paver will then stand around foolishly, so I'd rather take one more bag... Our slabs are 8 cm thick. Quite a bit goes into the joints...

We first pre-wet the patio slabs, meaning we made them wet with the garden hose and then immediately poured the mixture directly out of the bucket and slurried it with water on the slabs and swept it in with a broom and hand brush. We repeatedly sprayed some water over it, then swept in any gaps that appeared, etc.. In the end, we carefully washed off all the mortar residues again with a cloth and a trowel. It was simple but somewhat tedious. I was also glad that we did it ourselves, because I can't imagine that a landscaper would have crawled over the terrace on his knees like I did and inspected every single joint carefully.

Best regards
Sabine
