Evening,

we are getting a brick garage with about 55sqm... I would like tiles in the garage, the lady of the house would be satisfied with simple paving which continues from the driveway...

The builder suggests a strip foundation which can be concreted further after the final decision...

Is that rubbish or can you do it like that?

Thanks

Since entire houses are built this way (e.g. mine), I think it works like that (without knowing or even being able to explain the static background in detail). However, I have been told that a house whose floor slab is not a supporting structure but only rests on strip foundations would be the cheapest construction method. For a garage, however, that would be okay for me.

Side note: Listen to your wife!

I thought with rinsing out with the hose or breaking it open, it would be easiest like this with the tiles...

Well, you can also spray off the paving with the hose. The water just seeps away there.

What do you want to break open there?
The advantage of paving without a base plate is that if you later want to go under the garage, e.g., with some cables, then that's possible.

Wild...

I just thought salt/oil can be removed from tiles more easily... And the heat is retained better, right?

Ok, yeah, with all that blood it's obviously a bit of an issue. Tiles are definitely better than pavement there. But then I would also plan to include a floor drain right away. So if the hobby is worth it to you, better do it right away with a concrete slab. I don't know about salt, I think it depends on the pavement/tiles whether they can handle it. Heat is more about the concrete slab itself, less about the tiles. But if it's not insulated, it doesn't retain heat for very long and takes a while to warm up.
