Google Sketch Up

is something for virtualizing, not for planning,...

you can also gladly omit a dimension in the first drafts,
after all, this is not about social housing, or area ratios,
because otherwise you are immediately out of the competition.

Form follows function,...

Yes and no, it works quite well for planning, although it can't be compared to an architect's CAD program, but it is quite suitable for the initial planning. Structural calculations are also possible. We took the exterior floor plan of our house and drew the interior walls with Sketchup, printed it out for our architect as a basic idea. Then we checked what was feasible. When we received her floor plans, we adopted them, furnished, and so on, then made changes, etc. I tried various home design planners, and I liked SketchUp best. Sweet Home 3D was also quite okay, but I had small problems transferring the floor plans to scale and with sloped roofs. However, it is completely sufficient for the first drafts; only when furnishing and making walls transparent did it become more complicated.

Hi, I can recommend Cadvilla. I have the Basic Version, was very quick to get started and my friends are also enthusiastic about it. I am also happy to help with minor questions.

Hi,
I have Architekt 3D - the most expensive version (professional?). After a few initial difficulties, I’m managing quite well now. The 3D visuals are nice, they give you a real feeling of how it could look later.

What’s really not so good: the dimensioning and area calculation do not take wall thickness into account. At least, we haven’t found a setting for that. Otherwise, it’s pretty resource-hungry and also old-fashioned. No support. You’d actually think - junk. But comparable software is often much worse or way more expensive than this.

Happy to give tips if you have startup difficulties.
Best regards!

Always an interesting topic for people who want to put their ideas on paper/computer. I myself downloaded SweetHome 3D for my initial drafts (which were sent as ideas to the [GÜ] (with architects)). Btw - the thread is from 2010 - at least the original poster probably won't be interested in our answers anymore .
