Geothermal heating in connection with solar?

Hello dear home builders, we are currently finishing the final plans. We were recommended a geothermal heating system (drilling). Now we are considering supporting this with a solar system (hot water storage). Does that make sense? What additional costs will we face for a solar system with ~400L storage? Is this even possible? Best regards

Hello,
Then have the entire system properly calculated/dimensioned! Quite strange "constructs" are often sold here.
For the seller, yes! ;) A lot has already been written about this. Just use the search function.

Technically, almost anything is possible. More sensible and effective is optimizing the entire system with one heat generator! Even there, many heating installers already have their problems.

best regards

Hello,

Is such a system even realistically feasible for you? You entered NRW as your place of residence; in many parts of NRW, NRW pumps out the groundwater, so a geothermal heat pump doesn't really make sense there.

If this "consideration" is based on the statements of your seller, €uro is right, if it is merely a vague idea from you, then take a look around here in the forum.

"More" is rarely better; if the geothermal heat pump makes sense for your property, the calculations are correct, and the costs are manageable for you, you don't need another energy generator; the geothermal heat pump takes over all functions.

Why do you even want a 400-liter storage tank? Do you have so many children who drain the tank? :)

Kind regards

Thanks first of all to you :)

The drilling is supposed to be 80 meters deep. So no connection to groundwater but a geothermal probe.

The "idea" came from me and not from the seller.

Our builder has equipped 15 houses with geothermal energy this year.

The building area is supposed to be well suited for it.

I was told that 400 L is sufficient for 4 people.. 300 is supposed to be too little... but it's good if the geothermal heating is sufficient in the end.

If the geothermal system does not reach the temperature in winter or more is needed, a "heating rod" switches on that then consumes a lot of electricity.. therefore the idea of the solar system came up.

Hello,

A proper brine system, with exact dimensioning/calculation, can do without a heating rod! This is only possibly needed during construction drying. Therefore, it makes sense to have it only "on loan" during the first year of operation.
Equipping X houses with a brine system is no problem. But what annual performance factors are actually achieved in practical operation? This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff.
Instead of a solar thermal system, I would rather improve insulation or install photovoltaics on the roof. That way, you can avoid the annual performance factor killer "combined storage tank." Possibly, a higher efficiency status can also be achieved.

Best regards.

Photovoltaics would then exceed the financial budget.

Tomorrow I will know more about the system and the house insulation.

I will get back to you.

Thank you for the explanation.
