Hello fellow forum members,

we now have 2 offers from different general contractors, which differ significantly in heating technology and the ventilation concept.

Offer A includes an air-water heat pump. Ventilation is done through window rebate vents and exhaust systems in the wet rooms.

Offer B includes a gas condensing boiler with a solar system and a central residential ventilation system with heat recovery (all components from Viessmann).

The central residential ventilation system would of course have the comfort advantage that manual ventilation can be omitted. However, we are particularly concerned about the noise development caused by the system, whether it is the right choice for us. What are your experiences? Surely you hear something if you concentrate on it, but do you also hear this system in "everyday life" when there are various background noises?

In your opinion, what is the approximate fair price difference between Offer A and B?

How is the concept of window rebate ventilation generally to be assessed?

Thanks already for your assessments

You can file away the first offer... that's rubbish...

You don't build totally airtight houses and have great windows with the best U-values just to cut holes in them again??? On top of that, you blow the air from the warmest rooms directly outside???

Efficiency goes straight down the drain.

The second concept makes perfect sense and will work great...

Oh, and by the way, exhaust air systems are usually much louder than central or decentralized ventilation systems.

A central controlled residential ventilation system is only audible at the installation location during normal operation... you can't hear anything in the rooms... the air exchange rates are simply too low to cause disturbing noises in the rooms.

There are two topics with you: 1. Heating 2. Ventilation As Mycraft writes, I would also choose a central controlled residential ventilation system. Regarding heating, everyone must make their own decision. Do you want a heat pump or a gas heating system with solar thermal integration?

Only build with controlled residential ventilation. Heat pumps can become electricity guzzlers, especially when it gets cold. The lifespan is limited and replacement will be expensive. Gas heating is usually also significantly cheaper to purchase.

The ventilation from the first offer is by no means recommended for new buildings.
