I think so too. At the moment, it is probably still purely a DIY thing. Even though it is often significantly cheaper and quite effective!

What does your gut say? It’s not all a matter of calculation, but also the feeling with which type of heating you feel most comfortable in your mind.

Thank you very much for the feedback so far.

Friends of ours have a geothermal heat pump with ground collectors and are enthusiastic. After dealing with the topic, I am also intuitively in favor of geothermal energy. Due to the property, this is probably only possible with probe drilling. Since I am currently doing my training to become a certified accountant, I keep being told that every investment has to be mathematically worthwhile... but calculated over 20 years, no investment clearly stands out from the others. Therefore, I am also dependent on the experiences of previous home builders. I will probably wait for the heating load calculation first and get binding offers. Then I will see further.

Okay. With us, however, it was actually mentioned during construction. But maybe that was indeed the famous exception.

Actually, it wasn’t necessarily about the topic of surface collector or trench collector or drilling. It was more about first creating the prerequisites in order to actually be able to compare and decide. That means: heating load calculation and checking what is possible and feasible with which technical and financial effort. Then you can compare and decide.

I absolutely agree with you.

That’s a good plan.

But that also depends on the storage volume and the target temperature! Whether you have 100 liters or 270 liters of volume makes a difference, as does whether the water is stored at 55 degrees or "only" 40 degrees (i.e. whether more or less cold water has to be mixed in at the faucet). We have 270 liters, and when the two adults shower and the two children bathe together, there is still warm water flowing... After that, the device runs for about 3-4 hours to reach the 55-degree target temperature.

What do you mean by "data", these are estimates from the site manager, which were confirmed by the heating installer. An air heat pump works like a refrigerator, only reversed. Such a refrigerator can also work reliably for 20 years, but can also quit after 10 years.

I did not inquire about domestic hot water storage volume. The very idea of standing there without hot water when guests are visiting (and we have a large family and correspondingly frequent overnight guests) totally deterred me.

What now deters me more is the Russia crisis. But well, the gas heating is already in operation.
