Gas heating with solar thermal in new construction

I cannot imagine generating even remotely enough electricity for the heat pump with photovoltaics in winter.

That's not what it's about. You don't live on a deserted island or a mountain but have this power grid available. Apart from the salespeople for hydrogen systems, no one seriously talks about every single-family house having to become self-sufficient now.
