Furnishing our living/dining area with split-level

Well, ... my solution would be achievable through a simple platform. I don’t find your current plan with stairs down right after a door solution that blocks access to the stairs very practical. I also find the path to the kitchen with steps down, basically walking through the living room, then steps up, more than unusual.
