So the thing with the mailbox has also crossed our minds. According to the resident registration office, however, that is not allowed. The question is: does anyone care if we move in later anyway?

And registering at grandma's.... hmm. According to a new regulation, the landlord must confirm that this is indeed the case. For false reports, there is a penalty of up to €50,000. Allegedly.

So as I said, we've thought through a few things already, but does that actually work like that? Does anyone have solid experience with that?

Who says that the grandma rents out the place? The child lives there, period

If grandma lives in a rented apartment, the landlord of the apartment would have to confirm the move-in, that's correct.. Welcome to the surveillance and bureaucracy state Germany.

That’s how it is. Unfortunately, grandma herself is renting.

Have you ever been there in person? Our neighbor also registered his son at the school half a year earlier, but drove 18 km each way every day.
