Freestanding bathroom wall: Does the wall hold a double washbasin?

Hello everyone,

I need a quick assessment.

We want to build a freestanding wall in our bathroom (approx. 2m x 2.2m). I planned to build it with aerated concrete, 17.5cm thick, directly on the raw floor (screed will be applied afterwards). The wall has no additional support or connection to other masonry.

Will the wall hold if a double washbasin is later attached to it?

Should I perhaps build it 24cm thick instead?

What is your assessment?

Thanks for any help.

I would first anchor 2-3 "stands" to the raw floor and build them in (e.g. Würth C-profile with profile foot), practically as a replacement for connection reinforcement.

Otherwise, I would be concerned that the joint between the raw ceiling and the first layer of stones won't hold because the tipping moment on the wall becomes too large.

Yes, I have some concerns about that. Thank you for your assessment.

And you think that I can then lean against it? I can't imagine that with aerated concrete.

At 17.5 I would think so. Leaning against it should still be possible. Jumping against it could be difficult ;-)

That doesn't help. Nowadays we’re no longer talking about small formats where a 24cm wall would have an alternation between stretcher and header courses. The suggestion with the angles is already good. And, even though I'm glad when someone doesn't want to build a "T": how about maybe a little bit of an "L" (or even a "Z")?
