Hello,
in our recently purchased, largely renovated house from 1956, some of the basement rooms still have the original concrete floor. It is somewhat uneven and has many plaster and paint stains from the renovation work. Because of this, a lot of dust and light dirt is always carried from the basement into the other rooms. The frequently used area is already covered with new terracotta tiles. The remaining rooms will remain purely utility basement. In one room, I want to set up a small workshop.
We would like to prevent carrying more dirt from the basement and cover or coat the floor while the basement is still empty. Here are some of my considerations:
Does anyone know a suitable floor covering for this situation? Actually, a few thin mats in the frequently used area would be sufficient for us. Shelves could also stand on the bare concrete. However, for aesthetic reasons, we would want to apply coatings over the entire surface.
Best regards and thanks
Michael

We would like to prevent carrying more dirt from the basement and cover or coat the floor while the basement is still empty. Here are some of my considerations:
[*]For self-leveling compound, the differences of 1-3 cm are too large; considering the required amount, it would be too expensive.
[*]The basement is dry. The substrate is sandy and there is no moisture problem, but also no barrier layer. So I do not want to seal the floor waterproof to allow any moisture that might occur to escape.
[*]I have been advised several times to apply a primer. That would stabilize the surface somewhat. The diffusion should not be affected even though plastics are included.
[*]The ceiling height is only about 2 m. I do not want to install thick layers to avoid further reducing the standing height.
