I also thought back then that the floor slab had to be neatly smooth and even.

Our structural engineer then explained it to me.

If the OP cannot ask anyone else right now, such stupid answers confuse him.

To the point: The floor slab does not become even or uniform, as the first comments have already said, that only happens through the screed.

Before laying the first row of bricks, a string is stretched using a spirit level and the mortar is applied thicker or thinner accordingly: the first row of stones is then 100% level. Inside, you notice through the many layers to come: [Schweißbahn], [Dämmung], [Fußbodenheizung?], [Estrich] then nothing of it anymore.
