Good morning,
we have bought an existing house. On the ground floor, the entire screed including expansion joints has now been renewed.
We have now ordered very stable click vinyl and would like to lay it as a floating floor. So we would like to do without expansion profiles. The area of the ground floor is about 100m². The area of the kitchen, dining room and living room is open and especially here it is important to us that no expansion profiles have to be used. At the room edges we would leave enough space for the vinyl to move if necessary.
Now my question is whether this could be a problem or have consequences, or whether the floor covering can be laid continuously without any problem?
We have also retrofitted underfloor heating. Maybe that is also interesting to know.
I would be very happy to receive answers.
Thank you very much and kind regards
Nadine

The installation instructions from the manufacturer state how long one can go lengthwise and crosswise without a joint.

Hello "Nadine1603".
With an area size of 100m² with underfloor heating, joint openings are already programmed in when PVC planks are loosely laid!
With a screed that cannot be heated, I would still agree to the installation after appropriate climate conditioning, but not with a heated screed.
Apart from the fact that with thin-layer elements, an increased flatness of the subfloor (above line 4 according to DIN 18202 Table 3) must be required.
To answer your question:
There will definitely be joints between the edges of the elements.
Probably with a joint width of over 1.6mm up to 2mm.

Hello Nadine,

we also had vinyl installed everywhere in our new building (except for the bathrooms). In various conversations, we were advised to glue down the vinyl. Especially since we have underfloor heating and floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.
In a friend’s house, vinyl was installed floating over an area of about 8x5 m in the living room, and he said that the intended 5 cm gap to the wall is not sufficient to compensate for the movement.
Especially when the sun shines through the large windows, it expands extremely...

I would also recommend gluing down the vinyl.

It also depends on whether it is full vinyl or with an HDF carrier. In the first case, I would also glue it, in the second not necessary.

I have also dealt with the question of whether vinyl with HDF carrier can be laid continuously floating over several rooms (with underfloor heating). Then I inquired at Parador. There came the brief answer:

Here it can be laid continuously. However, you should glue the end joints. Please also use a PE foil.

But then I changed my mind and used transition strips after all. Because it is easier, the strips don't bother me, and it is safer. Continuous laying is more effort because you have to include all rooms when measuring out to avoid having very narrow rows of vinyl floor left. And you have to pay more attention to the laying direction. Both ways work. I also know both variants from acquaintances who have newly built. Vinyl with HDF carrier and cork impact sound insulation is, to my knowledge, not intended for gluing. Rather full vinyl then.
