Flat roof drainage with emergency overflow

With us, the pipe goes from the roof into an open water catch box and only then into the downpipe. If the downpipe is clogged, the box overflows. That's how I know it from other flat roofs with external drainage.

So maybe simply retrofit a catch box for each? It is unlikely that all 3 drainpipes are clogged.
