For fire protection reasons, the joints must be sealed. Besides, the appearance is not great right now – concrete sometimes even runs there.

Even without fire protection (is that really safe like that in a private single-family house... Nobody pointed that out to us) the joints are pretty ugly, at least for us it wasn’t a 2mm joint, but because of the beveling on the edges certainly a 4cm joint that then tapers upward, with quite a bit of concrete residue in it. I can hardly imagine how you can make that look good without filling it. And since you certainly won’t match the original color and pattern, afterwards painting/wallpapering or something like that will be necessary.
