Hello,

we were recommended an extractor hood with exhaust air by the kitchen builder for our kitchen planning.

Which is better, exhaust air or recirculation, in a KFW55 house?

Advantage of recirculation: you do not blow the heat outside.

Advantage of exhaust air: the odors are transported much better to the outside.

Is exhaust air even possible with a KFW55?

Is possible with motorized wall box and forced ventilation. And yes, it is of course better in terms of the function of a range hood. But it has the mentioned disadvantages

I also had a recirculation vent in my old shared apartment. Unfortunately, the exhaust air was not possible due to the building structure. Now, however, the new kitchen has been equipped with an exhaust pipe in the floor slab. That is definitely much more effective. It was about an integrated extractor of a Miele induction cooktop. How it looks with the KfW funding would unfortunately have to be answered by others.

There is no better option. You have to decide what is more important for you. Odors can also be effectively filtered with a good recirculation hood (I use a Berbel myself and don’t notice much difference compared to the exhaust hood from my last apartment).

Yes. There are also plenty of wall boxes (manually or motor-operated) that easily pass the blower door test with flying colors.

In our new house, we are also getting a recirculation hood with an activated carbon filter (which even required an additional power outlet), which is supposed to bind the odors very well too!

Currently, we have exhaust air with an electric Weibel wall box, which is really airtight!!

Because of the setup play: My kitchen always smells – nothing needs to be transported out ;) Joking aside, generally speaking: recirculation! Odors don't harm you. However, the decision also depends on the layout, open concept or not, staircase or not, is a lot of frying or fat frying done…?
