No idea if this is comparable. If it is, then a little note about something that has been happening in front of my window for days.

At our workplace, nobody took care of a warehouse roof for 20 years. After the drainage stopped working, everything had to be removed. In around 50 man-hours, the large bushes and roots were removed, and for the past 3 days, a company of 5 has been scraping off the top layers and vacuuming the entire structure including the root network. So far, about 50% of the area is done (estimated size maybe 250m²-300m²).

A roof like that also needs some maintenance, and you should always keep an eye on what kind of plants fly in and settle there.

"extensively (e greening)" does not mean "don't care" either. Once a year means to check and maintain.

I'll take the liberty to join the topic. If not desired, please move it. Thanks

Unfortunately, our construction company hasn't managed to green our garage roof in 2 years. Seeds were always sown during great heat. Of course, nothing came of it.

Now, over the autumn/winter, a lot of moss (I at least think that's what it is) and weeds have settled. See pictures.

We would now like to do the greening ourselves right away.

Should the moss be completely removed beforehand or can it stay on!???

I had noted Bauder here: Only sow seeds or also plant sedum plants.....?

Oh yes, we live surrounded by fields in case that would be important.

Thanks to you all in advance

What do you have against the moss? It exactly fulfills the functions that a green roof is supposed to have. I would only remove the weeds and tree seeds.

I would remove the moss and also refrain from pure Sedum. There are such beautiful mixtures for green roofs with many different plants. These usually require open soil during sowing. It can also be worthwhile to work with a mixture of ready-made plants and seeds.

I wouldn't change anything about it either. Who's going to look at it? Better spend money on plants that you can actually see.
