expired IKEA products

dear community,

i’m not really an ikea junky, but for many many years i have had the antonius shelving system from ikea, by now it has almost become a small library. it’s the system with battens and brackets and boards screwed on. nice. now i wanted to expand the cd shelf and noticed that the smallest brackets (ikea calls them consoles) are no longer available, disaster. my question to you pros: is there any chance to get such a discontinued product somewhere, leftover stock or similar. i am very very grateful for any hint...!

Unfortunately, you can only try it through Ebay. At IKEA, it is not possible for logistical reasons to provide individual elements or spare parts for discontinued products indefinitely!

I also find it a shame that IKEA completely removes certain products from their range after just a few years, probably only because they "don’t sell well." This also includes pieces which, in my humble opinion (trained carpenter, interior design student), were absolutely superb in terms of design and workmanship. For me, this includes, for example:

- Dining series PELTO birch
- Dining series NYGARD birch
- Chair SVANTE birch
- Chair ROGER oak/sand gray (now only available in black)
- Kitchen fronts ULRIKSDAL and RAMDALA

Such a pity.

Recently, however, I made the following comforting discovery. At IKEA Switzerland, at least ULRIKSDAL is still available. After that, I reconsidered my suicidal intentions.

My questions to the insiders:

Do discontinued IKEA products really end up completely forgotten, or are they archived centrally (somewhere in Sweden) to at least be accessible to the professional audience (interior designers, specialist dealers)?

Is there perhaps the possibility to obtain the original plans for reproduction?

so in Sweden there is apparently a storage facility where things are kept for a period of time (probably about 3 years). however, ikea also charges extra for this, i.e. there is a corresponding price list according to which the prices are determined. this then depends on the weight of the package...... so everything is not really cheap, but if there is no other way out or another solution...

What I would find great is if Ikea would notify in their newsletter when they remove something from the program... you plan (at least I do) a new furnishing well in advance with ideas from the catalog and the internet, and when you then go to IKEA, they say "sorry, but that is no longer available" (happened to me with the green sliding doors for Pax) ... great... have to plan everything new then. I think it would be quite practical if this information somehow reached the customer. A kind of advance warning "Guys, we are discontinuing this, if you want it, get it now"

something similar happened to me today. I went to Ikea to buy my daughter, who has been nagging since summer, the Anemoda bed in white and the Hellum rug, but both items are no longer available. They have simply been discontinued, and there isn’t even a comparable replacement model for the fairly inexpensive bed. My question is, is there a warehouse for discontinued models? I can hardly imagine that all discontinued models have been sold out. Does anyone have a tip for me?
