Hello dear forum,

our new building is imminent & currently the following question arises regarding which combination of the roller shutter box / insect screen would be sensible.

We have two offers, which differ as follows:

- Roller shutter box with one shaft / plastic slats / roller shutter rails & insect screen as tension / swivel frame on the windows & doors
- Add-on roller shutter boxes EPS including additional shaft for the insect screen / double guide rail on the window / aluminum slats

Maybe one of you already has experience with the boxes in which this insect screen is already integrated, or advice / opinion on these systems?

Thanks to you!
Regards, Stefan

Hello Stefan,

we had exactly this installed from manufacturer Beck+Heun:
- recessed roller shutter boxes EPS including additional shaft for the insect screen / double guide rail on the window / aluminum armor

I would do it again anytime. I regret not having it installed everywhere. Especially for floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floors, it makes sense. Advantages:
- clean solution, the frame is not damaged by screwing on a retrofit solution
- there is no external roller shutter box when installing an insect screen retroactively

Advantages compared to usually cheaper retrofit tension frames:
- can also be easily pulled up in summer if you want to look out of the window
- does not have to be installed/uninstalled separately in spring/autumn (most people eventually stop doing this anyway - but it permanently obstructs the view)
- does not require additional storage space
- does not damage the seals like a tension frame

So I can only recommend it.

So I wanted that at first too. But with my quite tall floor-to-ceiling windows (249cm), there were problems because this was not approved by the manufacturers. The fabric is not supposed to remain stretched at this height, so it is not offered. Additionally, the small rollers built into the boxes can only wind up a limited length, otherwise they become too thick inside the box. I therefore chose it for 2 windows that are not floor-to-ceiling. It looks quite neat. To still be able to reach the closing mechanism, there is a cord dangling with a little plastic thing at the bottom. That, in turn, doesn’t look so neat.
