Hello,

I am about to have a new house built. This house is to be built without [WDVS]. The reasoning from the builder is that the exterior walls are supposed to be 36 cm thick, and therefore no [WDVS] is necessary.

Is this just an excuse, or is it really like that?

Regards
Maik

Hello,
An exterior wall has to fulfill several functions, e.g.: load bearing (structural engineering), thermal insulation, heat storage, sound and fire protection. Here, one is dealing with partially competing requirements. In addition, for example, the economic effectiveness of insulation must always be seen in connection with the plant technology. Overall, a complex topic that can only be clarified in connection with the requirements of the specific construction project.

Best regards.

That can be the case... there are many who want exactly that! a monolithic wall structure.. Many are afraid of what such an ETICS will look like in 20-30 years... whether justified or not, I don't want to comment further.

One way to build monolithically is e.g. with Poroton bricks... with the wall thickness you mentioned, it should then be more towards t7/t8... the other option is with aerated concrete (Ytong)...

So it is possible...

Whether it is the right/best solution for you cannot be said like that, as there are many other requirements for a wall, as €uro has already said

Hello Maik,

This is one of the "Jehovah topics" in construction.

You can build both monolithically or with ETICS; ultimately, there are advantages and disadvantages to both options. You have to make the decision for yourself based on your preferences. ONLY: if you decide on ETICS, you should in no case do without ventilation; whether decentralized or centralized again depends on your wishes and your budget! Even with monolithic construction, it is sometimes already grossly negligent to forgo regulation of indoor air!

Best regards

I'm also very interested in the topic, but what exactly are the advantages and disadvantages of a thicker monolithic wall? Personally, I can imagine that it acts as a stronger heat storage and possibly also ensures a better climate because of that.

How does it look price-wise? --> if you plan a thicker wall and therefore less [WDVS], is there a cost calculator for this?

Currently, our new building is planned with 24cm Poroton + 16cm [WDVS].

I got this answer from my architect:
30cm is not necessary. I don't know any reason for it. The 24cm wall takes on the load-bearing function, the 16cm insulation the insulation function. I could only possibly imagine reasons for soundproofing, but not at this location with almost no sound emission.

I would appreciate some answers ... Thanks

I'm not an expert in this field, but one point is often the "fear" of ETICS systems.. on the one hand the fear of expensive renovations in 20 years if the ETICS system has to be removed, on the other hand the fear of increased fire hazard with some ETICS systems...

However, if you want to build very "sound-optimized," you will resort to building materials like sand-lime brick or concrete.. then you definitely need an ETICS system..

With a monolithic wall construction, you also have no/fewer problems attaching something to the wall from the outside afterwards...
