Hello everyone,

we rebuilt an old garden shed in our garden. The roof was renewed with OSB boards, and now EPDM foil is to be laid on the OSB boards.

Now it is about the fastening of the EPDM foil. I called some companies and received different advice.

Option 1:
PE foil on the OSB boards, then the EPDM foil on top. The EPDM foil should be laid around the eaves and fastened/clamped on the back side of the eaves with battens. Attach verge boards, wrap the EPDM foil around these and fasten with battens on the backside of the boards.

Option 2:
Glue the EPDM foil directly onto the OSB boards.

My impressions are as follows:
The advantage of option 1 is the omission of the relatively expensive adhesive. In addition, the EPDM foil can be reused if the shed is torn down.
However, the EPDM foil can move relatively to the OSB boards and rub against them. Could this lead to premature tearing/wearing of the EPDM foil?

Option 2 seems more durable. However, you also read/hear that the OSB boards "move" quite a bit and therefore OSB boards and EPDM foil should not be glued together.

How would you fasten the foil?

Kind regards, Parkett

On my garden shed I have variant 1, on my garage variant 2,... 1 and 2 mixed. On the garden shed just laid on top, then folded over and fastened from underneath. On the garage glued and additionally folded over and fastened with verge boards (but that's more for the appearance). I tend to glue for the following reason: Temperature fluctuations caused tensions on the foil (not glued), then a hail shower came and shattered the entire tarpaulin. When glued, the foil stays securely on the roof and does not "lift" easily, so that the hail can be cushioned.
