Dear forum members,

we are currently planning our own home.
Key data (this is how we envision it):
approx. 145m² living space, no basement, 1 and a half stories - no ventilation system and no heat pump desired, whole house with underfloor heating.

Idea: gas condensing boiler in summer (domestic hot water) and when absent (power range approx. 1.5kW - 15kW, sizing by installer), pellet stove with water jacket for transitional and winter periods when at home (water-side power range approx. 3.0kW - 12.7kW, air-side 1.5-3.3kW).

According to the 2016 Energy Saving Ordinance, as far as I am correctly informed, it is mandatory to combine a gas condensing boiler with a solar thermal system when it is used. Can I combine it with the pellet stove instead of the solar thermal system (I do not see cost/benefit)? Does anyone have such a system in use and could someone share their experiences?

Thank you very much!

P.S.: If any data is missing, I apologize.

No. Renewable energy is mandatory. It can, but does not have to be solar. It is usually solar because it is cheap. Pellets also count. Karsten

Wood is a renewable energy.
I would discuss that with the energy consultant.

You can also use only gas if it is biogas. So anyone who has a biogas plant next door and can connect to it might also be allowed to do without solar thermal energy. But who does that apply to.

Edit: I probably misunderstood you, are we talking about the same thing?

In case I was not clear, I meant

condensing boiler + solar thermal system + buffer tank!

or also possible, according to the Energy Saving Ordinance 2016

condensing boiler + pellet stove with water jacket + buffer tank?

I have really searched a lot/long on the internet, biomass/pellets are mentioned repeatedly, but I have not yet read explicitly about this arrangement in connection with the Energy Saving Ordinance 2016.

Our future house builder also needs to inform himself first, wanted to collect information in advance...

Thanks for your answers (it gives me hope that it will work this way)!

Everything built as described above works great so far...

Hello

Why not install a thermal solar system instead of the gas boiler.
This way, the hot water supply would also be ensured in summer and the transitional period.
