One of the easiest hedges to care for, in my opinion, is the hedge spirea (Spiraea vanhouttei). It does not grow taller than 2.50m. In width, it probably does not grow much more. You can practically let it grow on its own for years if you simply give it the space. In this case, that would be about 1.30m away from the fence - done.

That’s also an idea we have (among other reasons because of the size)... You usually hear nothing good about ivy (all hearsay)... Thanks already to everyone who participated.... since others are further along than we are... we can learn something from them or at least orient ourselves by it.... I don’t doubt what is being found .... Towards the neighbor, I’d just like something simple so that the problem of cutting doesn’t arise. I often notice that at first in new housing developments everything is hunky-dory and later the little disputes come up (trash bins placed incorrectly, hedges cut too seldom). To prevent that (in principle I have nothing against my neighbor (I don’t even know him yet)), I wanted to set “clear conditions” from the start so that over time we don’t get on each other's nerves.... maybe he even gets annoyed if I’m always walking around naked outside.

With clear terms, one can very often be wrong, so that the neighbor feels alienated. Maybe something meaningful can be planned together there. Possibly with a small passage at the end?!

Therefore, fences on the boundary must also be agreed upon. Simply building something on your own side and throwing away the opportunity for a joint fence (and thus saving space and money) would seem very strange to me.

Well, that stuff spreads like the plague. It's no secret.
