I would also let the appearance decide, we have 25cm... that is enough for us too.... Can't you have it shown to you in 3D? How many house planners can do that nowadays...

Of course, a roof overhang also has benefits on the ground floor. We have here a 3-story old building with a raised ground floor (so 3.5 floors) and about 30-40cm roof overhang above the entrance (at over 10m height). When it rains normally, you can squeeze up against the wall there and shelter while looking for your keys. I would go with 50cm all around; it’s simply a very good facade protection. Just google "Algae and ETICS" and look at the pictures. 95 percent have no roof overhang. And now try to find a city villa with a 50cm all-around roof overhang and algae. They do exist, but extremely much rarer. Besides, in terms of cost it makes little difference in the end, so clearly: it should be 50cm all around. In the catalog images of Weberhaus, for city villas as far as I know, it is 100cm all around and that just looks super cool.
(Main reason, though without question: passive building protection!!!)

.. it should depend on your considerations regarding thermal insulation, solar radiation and the orientation of the house ..

We determined the roof overhang for the kitchen canopy using the sun position and radiation simulation (in Powerpoint), although 20 cm or 30 cm probably aren't that relevant. I would think it is purely optical – from 50 cm onwards, the facade and window protection might begin.

Hello everyone,

I hope it's okay if I revive the thread. In another thread, the topic of roof overhangs got quite intense. However, that thread ( ) was actually about a completely different topic. To avoid derailing that thread any further, I thought I might be better off here because this is more on-topic.

Personally, I find a large roof overhang (about 1 meter) on hip/gambrel roofs quite nice and had planned it that way in my new build so far.
My question is: To what extent does such a roof overhang increase the costs? Is the difference between 30 cm and 100 cm enormous?
The roof would become larger overall. Can you just roughly add the additional roof area to the "normal" price (with a smaller roof overhang)?
Or is the construction of a (larger) roof overhang itself very expensive and then significantly increases the costs?

we also want a 30cm overhang, could you send me some pictures of your overhang? Unfortunately, I can't start a conversation because there are too few posts :)

Thank you very much!

Best regards
