Hello forum,

we had an electrician get a [Fernmeldekabel A2YL2Y 6X2X0,6 TR] in advance for the Telekom DSL connection. Now I am receiving different feedback

My questions:

1.) Is this the correct cable for a DSL connection that Telekom would install?
2.) Can the cable be used for a video intercom\doorbell system in between?

Best regards
M

1) From where to where is the telecommunications cable supposed to run and what is it supposed to connect? Distribution cabinet with your house? It is an underground cable after all... 2) If the system can do two-wire, you can use almost anything that has two wires. Otherwise not. Even 100 MBit LAN probably won’t work with it.

Counter-question: How did you come up with such a cable? The "DSL connection" is usually the network termination inside the building and from there you either go with an adapter TAE/RJ45 to the modem or router, or you convert it directly to Cat/RJ45. You now have a nice underground cable, but for what? Maybe you should have thought about what you wanted to do with it before buying it.

The cable should run 50m from the property boundary into the house. (Bau hat noch nicht begonnen, Kabel liegt aber schon im Erdreich)

The DSL thing was caused by the electrician who wanted to assist Telekom. (dass hatte ich nicht auf dem Schirm)

So I can at least operate a video doorbell system with it without an extra power supply?

Why not just ask Telekom if that even works for them?! I would urgently clarify that. Usually, as "preparation," you only lay an empty conduit according to the network operator's specifications (Telekom DN75 for multi-utility introduction).

Regarding the video intercom system: You can't say that in general, trend is towards no. The question is simply too general. Possibly you can find a system that handles it if you search intensively. The two-wire systems I have encountered so far all required power at the outdoor station. Can you lay a Cat cable there? Then you could at least use PoE systems, where the selection of good systems is much larger. Two-wire and good video quality usually do not go together.

Instead of asking here about the cable, you should speak directly with Telekom and clarify the exact specifications. It is best to do this in writing so that everyone will still know tomorrow what was agreed upon.

Lay the cable for the doorbell in the empty conduit so that it can be replaced if necessary or a second one can be pulled through.

I inquired in the electrician forum and also consulted with local electricians, the cable is sufficient for the door intercom system with audio, video, and door opener. I will separately lay a Cat7 installation cable as an option for another video system (POE with connection to Smart Home or similar). Telekom charges their 800 EUR flat rate anyway, so they can dig and lay the cable themselves.
