Why should that be a problem if done professionally? Whether something sinks or not depends on the substructure. If that’s rubbish, a 40x20 will sink just as much as a 20x10. Our sidewalks and driveways in this development, using the usual sidewalk format (20x10 or smaller), are perfect, even though 40-ton trucks sometimes roll over them. If it’s not laid evenly, you have to give the landscaper a hard time... but it certainly isn’t the stones’ fault. The opposite is actually true. Smaller stones tend to compensate for unevenness even better. We have laid 40/20 pavers. This is not an unusual size in our construction area. It was also not a big problem to install. Even larger ones (although I don’t find the 40/20 that big) eventually become too cumbersome to lay by hand. With smaller stones, you then have other problems, especially regarding the flatness of the surface. Our neighbor has stones about 7/7, which were laid by a landscaping contractor, but it doesn’t look particularly even.
