All done. I changed the plan again beforehand:
- Quantity: 4
- Heights: 20, 20, 25, 35 cm
- all in two 60cm high carcasses stacked on top of each other (didn't feel like cutting down a tall carcass), which are screwed onto the approx. 60cm high "base" (fixed to the wall)
Fronts self-made
- each 5cm lower than the "actual" drawer height; this saves the handle because you can grip from the top
- so cuts of 15, 15, 20, 30 cm from a single very cheap 80x40 shelf board from the hardware store
- additionally iron-on edge banding applied and done.
- total cost 5€
- The drawer holders were then screwed to the fronts with 3.5x17mm screws.
Here are two pictures.
Interestingly, I now have too little space for canned goods and at the same time only a few bottles in the bottom compartment. The rest has moved elsewhere. So another conversion is planned.
- either two full drawers; so 20 and 15 instead of 35
- or keep the 35 one and add an inner drawer above it. It would be cool if this inner drawer
a) were shorter, so bottles can still stand in the large one in front and
b) still could be fully pulled out to reach inside.
For that I would basically need a short drawer in the long slides. Since drawers and slides are always a set, I’m thinking of simply shortening the bottom panel of a long drawer and screwing the front on with brackets. Then the side panels of course fully extend, but where they extend to nothing is in the way. We’ll see if and when I try it out.
