Drainage of the terrace - How should it be done?

We are currently planning our terrace. It should have a total area of 45m² and extends across the entire width of the house and a bit around the corner. Now we are wondering how to drain it. Did you build a separate infiltration system or connect the terrace to it? Or do you let the water run off onto the lawn all around? It could be quite a lot of water when it really pours down.

Place a drainage. Connect it to the roof gutter drainage. That is safer.

The gutters are located on the other side of the house. That would be quite far. Still?

The solution is the safest, otherwise much also depends on the infiltration capacity of the adjacent soil. We have not installed any special drainage, but our terrace is only 20 m² directly adjacent to 300 m² of lawn and some water also infiltrates through the gaps between the stones.

We have already had several heavy rain events, so far we have not flooded.

That depends on your ground. Here, due to clay layers, infiltration is out of the question. So the rainwater, no matter which, has to be discharged into the sea. This is done through an extra rainwater sewer. The gutters are connected to it, and our terrace drainage is also connected to it.

My terrace also extends along one side of the house 10m + another 6m around the corner. On the house side, I installed a drainage system and also installed 8m of ACO drainage channels on the "lawn side".
