Hello
we want to build a double carport (6x6 m) that is closed on 3 sides (except for an upper ventilation area). A friend of mine, who works as a carpenter and is helping me, said that we should make simple point foundations (4 posts per side, so 10 in total, without middle posts) instead of a complex "U"-strip foundation made of cellar wall stones.
I have often seen carports with point foundations, yes, but is that sufficient if the carport is closed on 3 sides? I am now thinking less about the wind from East/South/West hitting the closed sides and more about the open North side where the wind almost pushes under the carport roof. Ok, from the North direction here in northern Schleswig-Holstein, the strong winds or especially storms are not common, rather from East or West.
We have wind load zone 3 here
