True, the wholesaler told us that too. But if the craftsman then marks it up by 200%, it unfortunately doesn't help me as a private person.

I can understand that the equity is not passed on 1:1, they should also have a few percent margin on it. But they should primarily earn through their service.

In the end, the total price has to be right. To be honest, I don't care how much of that falls on labor and how much are markups on material.

Buying online and having a craftsman install it by the hour doesn't work. No one does that. He wants the entire job or he'll leave it. Times are such that he can enforce that.

I have now inquired with several companies and have already received offers for door installation, much faster than expected, and there will probably be a few more; so you can't really say that in general.
From the savings compared to the offer with material, I could buy a small used car - and I don't have to think much about that.

We simply know the people then and are partly friends with them, so I can also buy a part on the internet that, for example, the heating engineer installs for me on a time and material basis. It didn’t matter if the craftsman was 500€ more expensive than the one who is 40km away, but I know he is there in 2 minutes if any problem occurs with the heating, roof,...

Overall, we have paid great attention to all the companies being regionally based and having a good relationship with the employees.

but to get back to the OP. I would never buy windows and doors on the internet. Permanently installed components always locally, relatively easily removable ones (fittings, kitchen appliances,...) then maybe sometimes on the internet.

I agree. Our carpenter is allowed to order and install interior doors, blinds, windows. But the front door comes from a very good online supplier. Here I know that I get selection & quality at a "normal price". Definitely saves me 2-3k€ just on the aluminum front door.

We also have exclusively regional craftsmen. Our plumber did not have any significant markup compared to online prices for the materials, the doors are installed by the carpenter, the price was also completely OK compared to online prices. So far, we have been very satisfied with that!
