Hello everyone, I completed my first Pax assembly over the weekend - and it even worked without any damage, unfortunately, I had to realize today that I probably didn’t nail the Pax back panel 100% correctly, so that it bends outwards quite a bit at the lower part. Now to my question - how do I get the nails out again to fix the thing once more? Somehow, I don’t dare to hammer against the Pax back panel from the inside of the cabinet with the hammer.... Has anyone ever done something similar and can give me a tip? Many thanks and best regards, das wurstfach

Normally, it should be enough if you gently push the back panel outwards from the inside at the sides; it only needs to move out slightly, so that you can then grip and pull out the nails with pliers. There should be no need for force here, so do not use a hammer.

Hello wurstfach,

the easiest way to remove a back panel is as follows:

- place a batten or another longer piece of wood from the inside, right at the edge where the back panel meets the side panel
- hit the batten with a hammer
- remove the back panel
- remove the nails and drive them in again at a different spot when reassembling.

The stability of such a piece of furniture depends crucially on how precisely the back panel is mounted. It is therefore also important not to leave the nails simply sticking in the back panel, but to really use new holes for them.

Good luck!

If you hit a roof batten with a hammer, it will not break. If you manage to do so, apply for the Guinness Book.

Such DIY tips are often hard to explain without photos. Surely you misunderstood something, because the batten is specifically placed in between so that nothing can break but the force is distributed.

Hi,

since Ikea introduced new nails, I can no longer remove the back panel without damage. I usually managed to loosen the traditional nails by gently tapping with my hand/hammer.

The new nails have a horizontal profile, and before such a nail moves out of the frame, the panel around it tears.

Has anyone had more positive experience with these things?
