Direction of laying parquet longitudinally or transversely to the light incidence in the living room

I like herringbone patterns - they also have something diagonal about them, but rarely fit in the typically small rooms of single-family houses.

With us, my wife and the parquet installer have prevailed and the wood fiber lies diagonally.. if I'm honest - and of course I am :cool: - I don't find it unpleasant.

With herringbone, I would also find orthogonal semicrazy.

In the photo, it can be seen that the emerging ZickZackLines run parallel to the walls. I would have oriented the wood fiber, that is the pieces of wood, parallel to the walls.

The matter-of-factness with which "normal" is labeled as "correct" is alien to me ... :rolleyes:

How else should you lay herringbone without it looking "special"? That is the normal laying direction, just like you have it.
