Hello dear friends of Swedish meatballs :)
We have installed a LACK wall shelf 110 cm above our desk (I have to stand, it’s not from Ikea this time...). Now we would like to hang a desk light on the shelf. The desk is actually used for real work, so it should be a nice bright light. There are about 50 cm between the desk and the shelf.
We have already looked at Ledberg or Dioder light strips, the Dioder round lights or the Grundtal or Inreda spots. Some of them (I don’t remember which, but I think Grundtal) have such big boxes on them, probably transformers or something similar. Of course, nothing like that should be on there, because I can’t hide it anywhere on the LACK.
Now the question: has anyone done something like this before? It’s important to me that we can illuminate the desk as well as possible. Practically, a spot would be great, because then it wouldn’t glare so much on the desk...
So, I’m looking forward to ideas if anyone has any...
Thanks and best regards
Tobias

Hi,

it's not exactly my area, but since you also need decent work lighting in the kitchen, I might be able to give you a few tips. :D

Ledberg and Dioder in round shape or as strips are basically just pure ambient lighting and simply too dark for working over a long period. I would also advise against Grundtal spots or strips for your purpose. They contain halogen lamps which, as you have already correctly recognized, are quite bulky because the transformers are built into the lamp. Also, they get quite hot especially with prolonged use, making them unsuitable for the lacquered shelves, which are only thin particle boards filled with a honeycomb core, fire hazard. You also have to think about your hairstyle if you are directly under the lamps. ;)

Unfortunately, I have to pass on Inreda, but I think I remember that they are quite bright and therefore suitable for working. I would recommend you take a look at the Rationell LED strips. They are quite discreet, you can connect several in a row, they come in white and aluminum, and are especially nicely bright but not so much that they dazzle. Also LED technology again and even with touch control.
