I surprisingly often hear that people want to skip the basement. I sometimes think this is false hope of saving significantly.
In my experience, it is still more of a tip than a new trend. The saving potential largely depends on the situation: in the combination "basement still desired in the future, mainly as a technical and storage room, land would allow building even without a basement" I consider the saving potential definitely worthwhile. For a basement in a hillside location, it looks correspondingly the other way around.
Don’t take it personally, but that sounds like a DIY solution.
