We bought our kitchen at Boehm in Potsdam and are absolutely satisfied so far. They had a very large selection of natural stone slabs. In the end, we preferred a solid oak slab in black.

Thank you for the food for thought, but I want to follow through now, so the effort is worth it to me. I need to start planning now. If any questions come up, I would like to get back to you ;-)

Oh, forgot... I will definitely have to borrow a machine for cutting. Hopefully, it will be done within a day... Have you already had experience with this topic? I found this shop on the internet [link from Dirk Grafe removed, please follow forum rules] Has anyone had any experience with them?

Best regards, again ;-)

No, I'm not crazy. My panels still weigh about 150kg and 200kg respectively in the cut state, the original panel probably weighed somewhere around 600kg. (Weight information corrected, I measured it again and calculated including/subtracting the cutouts)

No, but if you take their largest table cutting machine, you get a max cutting length of 720mm, ergo 72cm.

So I rather have the feeling that you are not really aware yet of what a granite slab weighs and how much material (discs or saw blades) is consumed during cutting.

Cutting my panels cost about 500€ in material and time, if I recall correctly.

And looking at your idea, I can only say, it was worth every cent.

Cutting yourself and dealing with fibers is definitely intense. But what was not mentioned is the installation.

This has to be done very precisely. If the slab bends anywhere, you will have cracks after a few months. Processing joints precisely requires a lot of practice and only works if the joints were previously processed precisely.

Otherwise, it should be said: Granite is fun! Everything installed flush, no more dirty corners. Huge sinks (also made of granite) for the big pots, pans, and boards. You won’t find that from the usual manufacturers. No worries about hot or sharp objects.
BUT: Either choose very colorful granite or natural rough. Uniform (black) stones with a polished surface make the househusband / housewife unhappy. Then you have to wipe everything dry like the ceramic hob...
