Uh-oh... A flat roof also costs money. The combination of a flat roof and a recessed gable roof will also not save anything compared to a pure gable roof.

This kind of "saving" only works on paper. Ask a carpentry company.

To save money, you have to tackle other things. Floor area, number and size of windows, full stories, equipment...

Regards.

I also cannot imagine that you can save so significantly, let alone whether this "wild" construction is permanently watertight. Since you are building full floors anyway, would possibly a roof with only one sloping surface (usually about 15-20 degrees) (I think it's also called a shed roof) be an option? This would certainly result in a smaller volume, you would have a normally covered roof and it should realistically be possible to save something on wood, membranes, roofing etc., and due to the low pitch it is also easier to walk on. Only aesthetically, it is not to everyone's taste...

In summary: The architect planned too large and thus too expensive. Now we have to see where to cut costs. There is the idea of "disfiguring" a roof to stay within the budget. There is talk of x sqm of living space, we do not know that. I wonder if the house with a different roof still represents the dream house. Why isn't money saved on common things?

... like for example the north face - which is usually unnecessary

But that is only the cost estimate, it will not have much to do with reality. How can the gable roof be €73K CHEAPER than the flat roof?

I would start by saving on the visible roof structure...

There is a book, it's a few years old and is from the Sparkassenverlag, the title was something like "99 Tips to Save Money When Building a House"...

Not a bad investment of 20 euros.
