Caution! Most municipal tree protection ordinances are much stricter. Usually, trees whose trunk circumference exceeds 60 or 100 cm at a height of 1 m above the ground are under special protection. These may only be felled with permission. The permit itself usually costs only a small amount or nothing at all (that was the case for us). The replacement plantings, which are often required, become expensive (that is the case for us). Felling is generally not allowed from March to the end of September, even with a felling permit for a tree.

Yes, our town has its own tree protection ordinance and it explicitly states what is allowed and what is not. That is clear to me as well. But there is absolutely nothing about the prices, rather generous indications from 30 to 5000! However, that is stated in the state regulation, with a note that the municipalities regulate it themselves. But you can't reach anyone there either....gggrrrr that's annoying.

So I cut down a spruce in the garden last August. However, its diameter was clearly less than 60 cm. After the city administration and the district office did not consider themselves responsible, I complied with the [Landesverordnung], and it was permit-free there. Also outside the vegetation period. But in [BaWü].

Coniferous trees, like 8 willows, poplars, and birches, are usually not covered by the regulations and may generally be felled between October and the end of February without a permit. The cost for the permit as an administrative act is unlikely to exceed an amount of 15-20 EUR. Often, it's free of charge. A visit to the municipal office often leads to success! Prepare the application in advance and submit it there after receiving information? Feasible? Best regards td

It always depends on the state building code and the respective - if established - tree protection ordinance. Therefore, you should be more cautious with generalized statements.
