I find it difficult to assess without further information.
Initial assessment from a distance: Have it done immediately! Windows of the appropriate size that are approved as a second means of escape (or is the existing window large enough?) are expensive. Depending on the width between the rafters, a header beam may need to be installed, insulation must then be adjusted, and drywall work done; the windows themselves are also costly because they must have a certain opening angle.
In the subsequently converted attic, we would actually also need windows of the appropriate size and characteristics for the second means of escape. I estimate about €3000. Our three existing roof windows do not meet the required criteria.
