Hello,

we are planning to buy an old farm and have already set our sights on a property. However, we are not quite sure if this will be a good decision, because this entire homestead seems quite nice at first glance, but on the second, it is already apparent that a lot of money will need to be invested in renovation. Only we cannot properly assess this, and the current owner will certainly not (want to) tell us to what extent the stone and beams are still usable. Who could help us with this problem? Does some kind of expert need to be consulted here, and if so, where can we find one?

Thank you!

The idea of the [Gutachter] is already a good one, but you should first take care of the most important areas of the house, because having everything renovated at once is insanely expensive.

Oh oh... an old farmhouse. That can be expensive because primarily building materials were used that corresponded to the rural standards of the time. However, today the strength and stability have decreased, and renovation is VERY costly because attention must be paid to the statics of the house.

Hello, if the farm is already very old, it may also be that the entire building is protected as a historic monument. You should pay special attention to this when you start renovating everything. Because if you don't consider this, you may have to pay a fine.

Hi, anyone who buys an old house unfortunately always has to expect unpleasant surprises, because often only what was long beyond repair has been painted over. My friend also got sold such a place and the costs quickly increased, he could have built a new house for that.

I know a case like that too, some friends of mine bought an old house. And then the costs started, almost everything had to be renovated. With every wall and every floor new surprises came to light. In the end, it would have been cheaper to buy a new house.
